( march plot info post )
GENERAL INFO
RESCUERS will be comprised of both refugee and NPC efforts, organized by the authorities of both cities. Characters will be given intel reports on the missing hostages, and are expected to make their best judgment call on where the kidnappers are hiding.
RESCUERS: Please reply to the comment header for your group with one location guess by March 18th, 01:00 PM EST. Majority vote will dictate where the rescuers go. Groups that fail to locate their hostages on the first try will still be guided along to the correct location in time, but outcomes will differ based on success or failure. Rescuers are encouraged to discuss their clues both ICly and OOCly to make the best guess for the group!
HOSTAGES will ICly be abducted on the 18th; more details on their condition will be included on the event post. Hostages do not need to respond to any comments here, and will all be rescued by March 24th at the latest. Please note that regardless of success or failure, character death will be optional. Hostage characters will be tricked or forced to wear a magical object that completely nerfs their powers, and this object cannot be removed.
As for the abductions, extremists will approach characters in a number of ways: asking for their help, surprise ambushes, etc. For the most part, these attempts will not be out in the open, but it's flexible otherwise. Characters can come up with their own scenarios and plan outside of their groups for kidnapping threads! In the end, they will be knocked out and taken away, with more details to come later.
Feel free to plot in the provided plotting post!

1. Researchers must check in before entering labs outside of their specialty, but have free access to rooms within their department. Recently, there has been a series of break-ins, affecting the botany, magical research, and chemistry wings. The chemists seem to have lost more ventilation hoods and gas masks than actual research.
2. The botany department suspects the breach was in their greenhouse, but the only item they've confirmed missing is an uncommon subspecies of noxious nightshade.
3. A team studying a rare breed of liln mention that their specimens have escaped their tank. This was attributed to the inexperience of a lab tech — a recent transfer from another department — but even then it stands out as a bizarrely egregious error. One of his coworkers complains that they should've "brought on the robotics intern instead."
4. The cleaning crew laments how the employees should pick up after themselves, and that the magical research department is especially bad. On the other hand, some of the potion brewers have been a pleasant surprise lately, keeping their workspaces quite tidy.
5. One large robotics lab has been cordoned off due to a contaminant spill. Some mention this is odd, as the staff there rarely works with odious chemicals and is infamously meticulous about safety protocol. The toxin has yet to be identified, but signs point to it being organic rather than lab synthesized. Security protocols have been lifted so those in hazmat suits and rebreathers can enter and exit at will to clean up, though few choose to do so.

1. Riley — acclaimed blacksmith, arms dealer, and proprietor of The Sharper — comments that he recently peddled a large shipment, but when pressed, claims he cannot remember to who. He has a local reputation as an honest man, and insists given the climate of the city, would not have made recent sales to anyone who seemed violent or untrustworthy, though there are no witnesses to corroborate anything he says.
2. Riley also asks that rescuers help find one of his most promising apprentices who went MIA at the same time as the weapons.
3. An acolyte at the temples can be interrupted as he wanders in a bit of a daze. He apologizes, mentioning that he must have run himself ragged looking for two of their missing priests. There was no sign of a struggle in their departure, and likewise they left no indication as to where they were going.
4. The Sanctuary staff is hard at work using their cached supplies to help civilians since the riots have started cooling off. However, one concerned cleric notices that despite how cloistered they were during the attacks, they seem to be missing some poultices.
5. The temples and Sanctuary have a good deal of oversight, but have both recently been flooded for aid after the string of arsons. The caretakers at both seem stressed, but the Sanctuary staff seems to be dealing with it more poorly, as several of them are reprimanded for slipping in their quality of work and for being absentminded.

1. Many think it's odd that Ashti is cooperating with civilians on a case that should be handled solely by the authorities. While Ashti remains tight lipped about this in public, rumour has it that Ashti is worried about potential traitors among the Royal Guard.
2. Given the recent unrest in the city, the Royal Guard is working hard to recruit and groom new cadets to help fill in the gaps. The Palace fire however, has forced the Royal Guard to repurpose an old school to train their cadets while the courtyard is restored.
3. Still, the cadets seem to spend more time patrolling around Shades Darker than at the school itself. It's unclear why they've been stationed there however, as they don't appear to do much other than chatting with the employees.
4. One of the Royal Guard's groundskeepers is overheard complaining that he'd been fired for being a mole before the relocation, but he still keeps in touch with the cadets that patrol the Entertainment District.
5. The Guard does not seem to be doing much to follow through with their initiative to train the new cadets. The old bell at the Academy rings at odd times, but no one has bothered to fix it.

1. A woman with a home remedy that works wonders at repelling insects reported that someone who "kept their hood up" the whole time they were talking bought her entire supply of salve.
2. A shopkeeper reported that there was a break-in. Among the missing items: some baskets, a paddle, and a length of rope.
3. One shaman at the Altar, when interrogated, said that one of the rogue shamans sometimes came home soaking wet but would never say why.
4. The following conversation was overheard in a tavern between two suspected shamans: "How am I supposed to find it without a compass?" "Follow the path of the sun as it sets."
5. Various shopkeepers have reported that much of their non-perishable food was purchased in one fell swoop.

1. They will find the remnants of a note left behind by a fleeing rogue shaman. There isn't much left of it, and it was presumably burned to get rid of evidence. Most of the note is lost or illegible, except for the partial phrase "de in plain s"
2. By asking around to various shopkeepers, characters will learn that a prolific animal hunter in Wyver reported that before the kidnapping incidents, a small group of shamans came to his shop and bought out all of his warmest furs.
3. The remaining shamans at the Altar of Volkkra have reported that a large number of their torches were taken all at once. They, of course, claim innocence, and do not want to be associated with their criminal brethren.
4. Four of the shamans have recently been rescued from near-death after coming down with hypothermia. This is a rare affliction for the order.
5. Authorities believe that given the nature of those who choose to work as shamans, at least one group of rogue shamans "likely didn't wander off too far".
