( month outline + plotting ) MARCH 2018
Hello and happy March, El Nysa!
At this point in time, the results of the event scheduling poll are in favor of shifting it back by a week. The calendar has been updated to reflect that, and more detail will be provided in the notes at the bottom of this post. We hope you've been enjoying playing these recent events as much as we've enjoyed writing them. Moving forward into this month, we've prepared an outline of the overall mood and events happening in March outside of the scheduled event for both Wyver and Olympia to help players plan their threads accordingly. Please use this post for plotting as you see fit! Additionally, threads for completing tasks from this post may be reported HERE to give us an idea how the plot will move forward based on character participation. UPDATES AFTER RIOTS
CALLS TO ACTION: WYVER Why are the shamans of Volkkra doing this? I have no love in my heart for Olympia, but we are better than this as people. Our rage has caused us to act as little more than bloodthirsty beasts. The blood of the dragons runs through our veins, but we are not savages! I demand that the men and women committing these crimes be brought to justice. Heryn, I'm entrusting you with this task. While we both know that Rasyc and Mythi's Fangs are just as suited for the job, I don't trust that he doesn't have some involvement in all of this. Do you have enough hands to track down these wayward shamans? Haha! Those frothing, altar-humping scuts had us Ryders occupied putting out fires on houses and people alike! There aren't nearly enough hands, but hey, we have some fresh faces, don't we? Refugees, you call yourselves? You feel like kicking some shaman ass? Do you actively seek adventure? I don't care. Join the Knightryders in our effort to pluck these ticks from the heart of Wyver! If it's compensation you're looking for, I'm sure our gracious King will reward us handsomely for the trouble. What say you, refugees? At King Shanrian's behest, Heryn and the Knightryders are conducting an investigation into the abduction of citizens and refugees by the shamans of Volkkra. Tensions increase among the shamans as factions begin to form within the Altar — some believe the abductions and aggression toward Olympian sympathizers was justified, while others believe that distributing the dragon's blood among the people to incite violence was an abuse of tradition. Eventually, the shamans who gave the orders — a group of elderly Wyverns who have been with the Altar as long as most people can remember — are instructed to surrender to the authorities. A handful of them do, but most go into hiding, and some of them begin to distribute dragon's blood to incite more chaos and cover their tracks. Citizens and refugees alike are urged to stay vigilant and come forward, and as there is a lot to be done, Heryn invites refugees to assist with bringing them in. There are also whispers of a different organization that wants to do good by the people and capture the shamans. Mythi's Fangs seems to have garnered the trust of many common people. Those who are more interested in learning more about this mysterious organization and getting the attention of their leader, Rasyc, can earn his favor by keeping a close eye on the Knightryders' actions and turning in rogue shamans to Mythi's Fang rather than the Knightryders. Many citizens do not think it is a good idea to let the Knightryders be the only group investigating the matter. SAMPLE TASKS: Drafting wanted posters, posting them up around town, eavesdropping at taverns for information about the whereabouts of the fugitive shamans, tracing back the spread of dragon's blood, interrogating shamans at the Altar about the fugitives' movements, apprehending fugitive shamans once found, spying on the Knightryders and their movements for Mythi's Fangs, turning in fugitive shamans to Mythi's Fangs. Honestly! What were those numbskulls thinking?! At least they had the good sense not to lay a finger on the dragons, or I'd have to rip their throats out! I'll be taking custody of these poor beasts, thank you very much. The shamans have proven that they can't be trusted with them. With time, the might even be able to lead normal lives, as close to the way nature intended as possible... Mmrrgh, I sure would like to teach those fools a thing or two! Thali will be taking the chimeras from the Altar of Volkkra into her care. Her reasons for this are twofold — firstly, to attempt to have them rehabilitated, and secondly, to study them. However, moving them from the Altar to a safe location presents the danger that the rogue shamans may attempt to set them free among the populace, and even once they've been safely relocated, taking care of them will require more time than a single person has. As such, Thali requests assistance from the refugees. SAMPLE TASKS: Rounding up the chimeras from the Altar, guarding them while they're en route to their new home, protecting the new location from looters, gathering food for and feeding the creatures, studying and documenting their behaviors, helping keep them under control without killing them. Chaos reigned for weeks in our land, And only refugees would take a stand. Now the worst of it's over But we're all fuckin' hungover So we ask you — would you lend a hand? The natives of Wyver have things they need done to help them ease back into their normal day-to-day routines, too. While the exact favors they need vary from person to person, the more tasks that are completed, the more highly the natives begin to think of the refugees. SAMPLE TASKS: Clearing away the remains of the pyres, restoring fire-damaged keepsakes, cleaning the blood murals off the walls, hunting and gathering food, fetching various items from shopkeepers, delivering various items to customers, testing out new products from the shops, testing out new services at the lagoons, et cetera. CALLS TO ACTION: OLYMPIA I see you all have brought quite the party to my doorstep. Haven't you all had enough? You've destroyed your neighbor's businesses. You've shed Olympian blood on Olympian soil. Other-worldly treasures gathered by Reyan dissolved to ashes... And you've scattered my precious Harem— oh, Ashti, no need for that look. My lady. We owe the refugees much. What we offered them in taking them in they have paid back manyfold these long nights. These problems are of our own people, and it is precisely because of that that it is to those beyond our own we now turn for help. Refugees, we ask your aid in finding those who brought such chaos to our streets. And if gratitude for taking you in is not enough, your successful efforts will be rewarded. Simwe and Ashti have heard from some of the palace servants and members of the Royal Guard that refugees assisted in protecting the Palace during the break-in. As a result, both are grateful to those who helped and have realized that they can trust the refugees with another pressing matter: assisting the Guard in investigating the anti-Simwe faction that they believe instigated these riots. Secondly, invitations to visit the palace are extended to those who previously protected the palace in some way and who assist with the investigation now. They will be allowed to visit some of the outer rooms — such as one of Simwe's many libraries, a music room, a lounging area, a set of indoor hot springs, or a small, in-palace Temple for worship — before being invited to the dining hall for a royal meal, and will also receive a small trinket of the Empress' gratitude. Refugees that receive invitations are allowed to bring a guest if they so desire, but they will be advised that they are responsible for their guests' actions. The Palace may have allowed visitors so they may express their sincere thanks for the assistance (and in order to encourage loyalty), but security remains high after the riots. SAMPLE TASKS: Questioning merchants near Flona Cove about people who expressed an interest in the aggression-inducing water, tracking vocally anti-Simwe citizens to see who they meet with, putting a stop to small acts of vandalism as they happen, apprehending any leftover rioters. Our prayers have been answered, yet as the terror ends our work begins anew. After horrible attacks and raiding during the riots, our supplies dwindle perilously low. My daughters are worked thin enough as it is attending to the injured in the city, far too busy to gather the materials needed. If your fate finds you well enough, I beg your aid in replenishing our stores and giving aid to my daughters in need of escort through the city. If the blessing of Thesa is not motivation enough for you, then surely gaining the respect of The Sanctuary will. Lysa and her Daughters at the Sanctuary are disappointed to report that between the rioters, the vultures harrying people at the barricade, and looters who refused to take "no" for an answer, their inventory has dipped dangerously low. This has left them with fewer medical supplies to treat the injured in the aftermath than they would like, and with the employees with medical know-how providing emergency treatment to stabilize the injured until they have what they need, they've asked refugees who are well enough to move to help them restock. SAMPLE TASKS: Gathering medicinal herbs and other potion ingredients, picking up orders of supplies from merchants, sorting the current inventory, sampling new potions to check for side effects, delivering potions to patients who are housebound, providing bodyguard services to employees who are afraid to walk the streets on their own on their way to visit patients.
Nithor the Exalted would be disappointed by the behavior as of late, But we can only do our best as citizens to now carry the weight, Of rebuilding the city, of helping the young ones settle down, Let us retain some pride— this isn't just glorious Olympia, but our hometown. The natives of Olympia are eager to return to their ordinary, day to day lives. Those that were not participating in the riots will go out of their way to express their gratitude to any refugees that attempted to keep the peace. Given that they have already witnessed the refugees' heroics during the riots, they won't explicitly request help, but with the Guard's forces stretched thin, it's clear that there is a lot that needs to be done. SAMPLE TASKS: Helping rebuild businesses, gathering and donating supplies to shelters for displaced citizens, taking apart the stages from the street plays, sorting the costumes, babysitting children while their parents are busy rebuilding, supervising rioters sentenced to community service (or performing community service, in some cases), providing bodyguard services to courtesans at Shades Darker, dressing as a courtesan and advertising Shades Darker's "reopening" on the street to drum up business, reporting any suspicious activity in the Red Light District to Koralle, et cetera. FINAL OOC NOTE
NPC TASKS
The tasks listed in the "Calls to Action" sections are available for any character to complete and do not require sign-ups or mod direction; how the task gets carried out is up to you and your thread partner(s). These tasks are just an example of some of the things that are going on throughout the month in the cities, and while nobody is required to carry them out, everyone is welcome to. If you would like to report your character completing one of these tasks, you are welcome to do so HERE. You may submit a thread of less than AC length so long as the task has been completed within those 4 comments or fewer, OR you may submit a thread of AC length involving your characters working toward the completion of their task. The deadline for submitting these threads is 11:59 PM EST on March 24th. Again, this reporting is optional, but will be used in conjunction with the results of the March event to determine the general atmosphere of the factions as well as the natives' opinions of the refugees, if you would like to have your character influence it. This will also be the only instance of gamewide reporting for the month of March, as we continue to tweak and refine the mechanic. Threads submitted for these reports may also be used for AC or ACP. EVENT SIGNUPS Thank you for getting back to us about the timing of the event! In accordance with the outcome of the poll, we will be pushing back the March event by one week. A tentative schedule is as follows: ▶ March 11th: Sign-ups open. ▶ March 14th: Sign-ups close at 11:59 PM EST. ▶ March 18th: The event log will go up along with a list of groups and roles. All groups will be given the information they need to carry out their search-and-rescue missions at this time. ▶ March 24th: Completed threads/summaries of the projected outcomes for ongoing threads will be due by 11:59 PM EST. Once the event has finished, the mod team will update the game with the outcomes and the way the refugees have impacted the atmospheres in both cities as March concludes and we move into April. CALENDAR UPDATE The calendar page has been updated to include an embedded Google calendar. We hope that this will make the presentation of information more streamlined and make it easier for everyone to keep track of things! With the ability to sync the calendar to your own Google account for reminders and the ability to swap to Agenda view for a quick list of upcoming events and deadlines, we hope this will make things go more smoothly moving forward. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM us directly or use our modbox for other ways to get a hold of us. Thank you!
