January Outline & CR Meme

Welcome to the January edition of our monthly outlines. Just as last month, we are keeping up with the present trend of including the CR meme alongside it. Naturally, this is open to all players. As always, outlines give players a general idea of what will be coming up in the month, and you're free to interpret it however you like. For this month, there will be a gamewide plot that will affect the setting from January 11th and on, until the end of the month. Please keep this in mind as you plot! The schedule is currently up-to-date, so please be sure to keep an eye on that as well. Please read on for final ooc notes in regards to this upcoming event! JANUARY OUTLINE     The Storm is Coming — The cataclysmic visions you saw in your dreams before waking on Thesa have returned. Except, this time, they have overtaken the sky above. In mere hours, Nysa is covered in an endless night. Illuminated only by terrible collisions of stars, exploding like celestial fireworks, the entire planet quakes - seismic activity growing steadily - under the looming threat. Thesa, in its centuries old grandeur, is shrouded by this calamity. Compared to the destruction of the surrounding galaxy, the space station's slow descent isn't immediately obvious. But those who keep a close eye on the station's systems will notice that there isn't much time before a collision. As the Isles of Nysa were Thesa's protectorate, they have now become its trajectory. The Mighty Jungle Collapses — In Wyver, a more imminent threat has materialized. Monsters cobbled together from the worlds consumed by the storm - yours included - have begun to materialize throughout the jungle haven. An indiscriminate patchwork of creature and technology, these abominations are feral things, untamable and purely unique. Some may even possess human qualities among their twisted physique, possibly familiar... There is no time to study the nature of these beasts. A call to arms rings out in Wyver, imploring anyone willing and able to keep the threat at bay. Perhaps more alarming is the manifestation of people, suspended in time. Corporeal and ranging in responsiveness to fully aware and completely isolated, these individuals are exactly identical to those refugees had lost to the storm, or watched over in the pods. However, they are stuck in a loop, minutes of their time on replay endlessly. There is no way to banish them, they'll simply fade on their own, eventually. Stay in the storm's violent reach for too long, and you may become no different than the creatures it hosts. Fighters grow entangled, limbs fused to limbs, weapons, or any other element of the surroundings. The effects will wear off after some time spent away from the fighting's epicenter, though maneuvering out of the chaos won't be easy. A Muted Empire — Olympia is not spared by The Storm's effects. The fog that once occupied the farther shores of the Outpost has moved in and blanketed the city with an eerie stillness. You will feel the heaviness upon your shoulders as it mutes and muffles the panicked sounds of the city's civilians. You will not be able to see even a foot ahead of you, and yet you'll occasionally witness the strikes of lightning above you — it illuminates the shining Moon, Thesa, that is ever-approaching. Naturally, the city is searching for answers. The esteemed scientists and researchers are observing the phenomenon, knowing far too well that this is the calamity that is long prophesied by their forefathers. First, it was the rise of the Great Dragon — and following it, the Storm. The Darkest Timeline — In Nadril, the answer seems quite obvious. While the Storm has created quite a few problems in its wake, its strange readings and its effects on current technology meant that Thesaens can, very effectively, rewind and disturb the current flow of time. El Nysa doesn't have much longer, a call to arms will be in effect — this time, not to fight, but to influence the past. Who would they have to stop to make this seemingly impossible feat reality? For the sake of my morbid curiosity, would characters getting fused with things be able to get fused with stuff like magical weapons/elemental things they use as weapons through magic? My example here would be Ren getting somehow fused with his shadow tentacle things he got as a Natha power (and presumably not being able to dispel them until they were unfused).

My plurk timeline is mostly RP, but this sort of stuff comes up on it pretty frequently as well. Fandom-wise, it's mostly anime and western animation with the occasional surfacing of other stuff.

Ren Suzugamori | Cardfight!! Vanguard

▶ Photo Reference. this but usually with black pants. Since it's kind of hard to see in smaller arts, I also like to note for anyone who looks closely at his face that his pupils are slit like a cat's, not round.
▶ Permissions. doot, this also includes his power permissions for aura reading and Psyqualia, his stupid convoluted psychic power that lets him basically drag people's minds/spirits into imaginationspace to do whatever he likes from letting them pat cool armoured dogs to leaving them in screaming agony without actually injuring their physical body.
▶ Personality Blurb. Described by one of his best friends as "capricious and delicate, as though he might break, but with a strong heart", Ren often comes off as a friendly, careless airhead who isn't really paying attention to anything at any given time and gets distracted at the drop of a hat. While this isn't necessarily false, it's an exaggeration of the nicer side of his personality, the less nice side being prone to manipulation, making people squirm for his amusement, and being worryingly perceptive and accurate about reading people. Despite being pretty shameless in his willingness to manipulate the people around him to varying degrees, Ren's actually a very loyal and protective person once he decides he likes someone, and occasions calling his friends out for engaging in dumb self-sacrificial heroics and the like. Of course, when he does the same thing it's entirely for his own personal enjoyment and he's totally willing to let the world collapse around him as long as he can get an entertaining challenge out of it, because clearly he's not the type for heroics. Those are cliched and he's having none of it, even if he also happens to be having none of the various equally cliched (in his opinion) villains who keep trying to destroy his world, because as far as he's concerned nobody's as good at the villain thing as he used to be.
▶ Desired CR. I'm open to a variety of things with Ren, since he's very friendly but also the kind of character who can grate on some people (and will likely intentionally grate on them if he notices he's rubbing them the wrong way...). I definitely want him out there meeting more new people, since he gets around a lot and he has a bit of a knack for identifying who's Good People and bringing them out of their shells, but I also want to strengthen current CR so he has more people he's actually willing to disclose personal things to to...some extent. He can be a bit cagey about that sort of thing.
▶ Offered CR. As mentioned, Ren has a knack for identifying the good-hearted, so I'm always up for him dragging good-hearted grumps out of their shells. He's generally good for dragging people into shenanigans, and makes for a good confidant as long as you don't mind the fact that he's the type to not waste any information he's given. He also has considerable experience with Weird Psychic Shenanigans, so that can be a good base for CR with other characters who have that sort of thing if they can get him to talk about it...
▶ Rooming Plans. Ren's currently living in a tiny apartment in Wyver proper with...his cat mostly. But he may or may not have suggested Aichi come and stay with him so he doesn't start hoarding cats or something.
▶ Game Plans. Ren's generally not too much the type to side heavily with a particular place, which I've been trying to reflect by geting all kinds of REP with him, but I do ultimately want him to end up with enough Wyver REP for their rewards. He's been very slowly trying not to fixate on his previous friends and focus on adapting/settling more into El Nysa as a home in the long term, though it'll probably help his general loneliness about his friends from home not being around to have another one awake now.
▶ Event Plans. SHIT'S GETTING REAL and I'm definitely going to throw Ren into an event role if I can, because this all sounds very interesting and also lbr he wants to Fight the storm for messing up his two favourite worlds and now this one. Since he lives in Wyver, I might dabble a little in the body horror part of the event there, and/or just give him a Bad Time with weird shadows/mutated versions of things he's familiar with from either Earth or Cray.

▶ Personality Blurb. TJ is a Lieutenant in the Air Force that slept with her married commanding officer, then ended up stranded with him and almost eighty other people on a spaceship moving a billion light years in the opposite direction from Earth.

She's smart, funny, extremely kind, able to keep everyone's secrets (including her own), while still having a tendency to make Not The Right Choice when it comes to herself and her life. Still, she's very 'shirt off her back' and wants to make sure everyone around her has enough; she's self-sacrificing to a fault, professional with (almost!) everyone, and wants to patch up all your character's wounds.
▶ Desired CR. I want TJ to make friends! Girl friends, guy friends, all kinds of friends! She needs them, desperately, since the people she's known for two years are stuck in stasis (which, oddly enough, is how she left them in canon) and a lot of her CR is in an odd holding pattern because she upset them.
▶ Offered CR. TJ is a medic! She's totally willing to patch your character up at Claire Fraser's clinic (or on the downlow if your character is the type to keep their wounds to themselves for whatever reason). Does your character need a friend? TJ is totally ready to friend. How about a shoulder to cry on? She's got two! A listening ear? She's got two of them, too. Honestly, I'm open to anything that you want, basically... though, if it's smut options, ICly might take a minute or a lot of alcohol.

Used to be the head of a global peacekeeping organization (who employed the likes of super-smart gorillas and cyborg ninjas), then everything blew up and he almost died and now he's bitter and angry. He wanted revenge against whoever screwed over Overwatch, but he's been on El Nysa long enough to know that he needs to focus on the here and now. He's still grumpy and no-nonsense and doesn't easily talk about himself, but his heart is in the right place. Also recently confirmed gay which is incredible but I also got totally Jossed, WHOOPS...
▶ Desired CR. Right now I'm really interested in getting some new CR and working on current CR, following up on initial meetings, etc. I feel like I recently had a lot of CR drop, so I need some fresh setups! Generally speaking, this is what works well for Jack:
- People who can put up with his prickly attitude and not get too put off by it.
- Competent soldier types who he'll feel comfortable around/working with.
- Anyone who is interested in information gathering, sorting out El Nysa's secrets, or wanting to know more about the Storm/Orbiters/etc.
- Anyone who knows Gabe Reyes or wants to talk shit about him.
- Negative CR is great too! 76 is difficult to say the least, so this is easy enough to make happen.
▶ Offered CR.
- Experienced and well-trained soldier with super-soldier enhancements, he's a great asset to have in any sort of fight. (Even bar brawls!)
- This also means that he could offer someone lessons in how to fight/shoot, if they were able to convince him to bother with it.
- Tends to be suspicious about pretty much anything, so if there's something shady going on, you can bet he'll be poking his nose into it.
- If you need your character bailed out of a bind and lectured all at the same time, he's your guy.
▶ Rooming Plans. He's living with Gabriel somehow and questioning all of his life choices. Their apartment is in Wyver.
▶ Game Plans. Generally speaking, he's accepted that this world is all they seem to have, which means that he'll generally get involved in anything that's in its best interests. He's against all-out war breaking out, and will do what he can to prevent that possibility. He's based in Wyver for the most part, but will probably be making semi-frequent trips to Nadril.
▶ Event Plans. RUBS HANDS TOGETHER, I'm 100% ready for lots and lots of monster fighting! Jack is definitely handy in a situation like this, so if you want our characters to team up or if yours is in need of a rescue, hit me up. I'm also up for having him stumble upon some time-looped characters from stasis!

▶ Personality Blurb. Manic dying WASPy dreamboy. Prior is a sweet, bitter, salty ex-queen. Still deeply bruised by being abandoned by his ex as his terminal illness took hold, Prior's a seemingly fragile creature who refuses to break for anyone. He's friendly, lonely, bitchy, spectacularly camp, deep-hearted and hears voices in his head since the angelic Continental Principality of America chose him to be a prophet.
▶ Desired CR. Ahem yes hello hi - Prior has just lost his best friend, developing romantic partner and the only person he considered to be from 'his' world to the stasis pods. He's going to be a little bit shipwrecked about it all and really needs people old and new to help drag it out of him and get him through. On an OOC level I'd love some CR with time and inclination to engage in a little boomeranging from time to time, esp text threads.
▶ Offered CR. Ability wise, Prior may be able to have visions or simply 'know' things about your character - which can be one good way to reveal big secrets. These may even be things your character doesn't know themselves. He'll be operating at high stress this month from a mix of sadness and being plagued with angelic visions so could use some steady shoulders to lean on.
▶ Rooming Plans. He's all alone now, and won't be coping well.


▶ Event Plans. Prior is probably going to have some sort of prophetic freak out about all this. If your character would like to calm down a strung out prophet or be given some hints of the horrors to come - or even interrupt a potential angelic visitation, let me know.

Theon is…a mess. He was dealt a shitty hand in life but continuously makes shitty decisions to make things even harder for himself. He's been a lot of things: the heir to the Iron Islands, a ward (or political prisoner, depends on how nice you want to be with your wording) to House Stark, self-titled Prince of Winterfell, a turncloak, an actual prisoner tortured beyond recognition, and a creature called Reek (it rhymes with weak).

He’s a troubled and stubborn young man, easily wounded and constantly at odds with his own identity. He doesn’t know who truly is when you strip away all his facades. He’s full of self-loathing and doubt, and guilt over the things he's done weigh heavily on him. He's easily offended and easily angered, but he's fairly withdrawn now. He bites back a lot of the things he used to say and no longer allows himself to lash out, because he's learned that that sort of behavior is what earns you a punishment. Sometimes the old Theon will show through with a dry remark or a jape, though. He’s never in the best place and he never will be. He’s emotionally unstable and easily set off. He doesn't trust easily, he doesn't like being touched out of fear that pain might come along with it. He is a mess, but he’s doing better than he was.

Theon has become something of a shut-in these days. Physically, he’s doing better, so if literally anyone can figure out how to draw him out of hiding, all the more power to you. He’s not a very friendly person, but it can be done if he’s shown kindness.
▶ Offered CR. He has three dogs. That’s all he can offer. JK he can also offer weaponry advice, especially when it comes to archery. He’s also been through a lot of shit and doesn’t sugarcoat things if you need to hear something straight up.
▶ Event Plans. WHATEVER THIS IS IT SOUNDS VERY EXCITING. This might draw him out of hiding. He hasn’t really taken an action role in awhile, so maybe he’ll actually help in some way because he's sick of alllll this shit. Why won't you just let him be miserable in peace?

Fully of the opinion that life is short and you should do something to a bagel. A minor deity in his own reality and all the arrogance that comes with that. Expects the world to warp around him, rather than be warped by the world. Also comes with a set of sketchy ethics that he will happily enforce on the people he's around. Also a murder hobo.

Someone you can butt heads with over moral and ethical dilemmas because he's self-righteous and set in his weirdly contradictory moral sensibilities. An effective murderer of monsters (one of the highest kill counts of the campaign baby). A drinking buddy, a friend to get you out of the house, and if you really need that sort of thing, someone to cuddle and/or make out with.

He prides himself on being inscrutable, and cares very little for the fact that it makes him a little frustrating to deal with. He plays the long game and manipulates accordingly. Gabe eventually betrays all his friends and nukes their organization before running off to be a terrorist. That hasn't happened yet, but, uh. He's got it in him. He knows about it now, sort of.

He has a very relaxed sense of morality when it comes to conning and killing people, but he’s not...the worst? Incredibly charismatic, and friendly until it doesn’t suit him to be. Dramatic as fuck, loves an adventure. Also he’s from the 103rd century, we think.

In terms of abilities, this guy is just a normal human with normal human skills. He is extremely resilient though and has survived near-death in both canon as well as here on El Nysa more times than I can count. His real abilities lie in his survival capabilities as well as his combative skills. He is a high-class martial artist, as well as a master sharpshooter who is constantly carrying around his Colt, Smith & Wesson, & katana at all times. He also has a ring he won some time ago that can turn his skin into scales temporarily and shield him from an attack, as well as a glove that magically alters his shooting skills into something of a godly level. He is a gunslinger straight out of the dark tower series at this point.

I am definitely planning on traumatizing him up a bit by showing him some repeated time frozen situations a la dying-father-figure. I also am happy to go the full body-horror aspect and have him experience some messed up mutations. Also planning on bringing some of the creatures (possessed dolls, demons hordes, and giant crabs) into the world. Knowing Sanzo he may also inadvertantly end up partaking in this whole time-travel ordeal without meaning to as well.

There's a lot of contradictions in this dude, but he mostly comes across as a bit of a crass asshole at first glance.

He cares a lot, is invested in the safety of everyone in Atlantis, feels personally responsible for every mistake and loss. He's smarter than he lets on, keeps emotions boiling under the surface, hurts more than he will ever easily admit and values the lives of his friends far above his own. If you want someone who can do complex math problems, name everyone who played Catwoman and yet also annihilate all of your enemies he is your guy.
