The main idea of the mod team is that, like subthreads in a log, each branch under the first comment in a network post would count as its own thread. In this case, that means that your link would have two threads - from the first tag up through "poolhall_killer 2017-08-12 07:13 pm (local)", and a second thread starting with Remus' first comment and continuing until its end.
The basic idea is that we would like activity in threads submitted for AC/REP/ACP to be continuous! Imagining the first comment by Venom in reply to this post and Remus' first comment as both being the first replies to a given post may help visualize what we had in mind. This thread is unusual because of the fact that Remus threadjacks, and Wynonna then continues interacting with Venom in the resulting subthread, rather than her own original thread with Venom. We've passed it because she interacts with Venom both times, but we would prefer to see continuous threads to avoid confusion.
In the future we will consider threadjacking on a case-by-case basis, but please keep in mind that we are less likely to accept a handful of threadjacks as "one thread" than a continuous thread.
